Course Title: American History Through Film and Music
Course Length: Half Year (Grades 11 or 12)
The course is designed to expose students to some of the major events and eras of the 20th Century. Through the examination of movies, art and music we will attempt to assess the validity of Hollywood productions as a means to capture the essence of historical events. Students will be challenged to examine the nature of “reel” vs. real history, national mythmaking and remembrance and the problems created by distortion and misinformation in studying history. Students will read and write critical essays and engage in project-based assessments. In addition, we hope to spark new interests in the study of history.
