Twenty-five Sparta High School students, split into five teams, entered the demanding Merck State Science Day Competition and brought home First Place for Sussex County. Students that participated are as follows:

Chemistry Olympics 2013
Sparta High School participated in the 28th Annual
Chemistry Olympics competition held on Thursday, May 16th, at NJIT
in Newark, NJ. Students from Sparta High
School took home three top place finishes:
1st place in Event 8: Analytical Lab. The students had to perform a
titration to determine the percentage of hydrogen peroxide found in an unknown
solution. Members of this event were
Kevin Mortillaro, Matthew Mayer, and Peter Jin.
1st place in Event 10: Microscale Lab. Students used microscale
titration techniques to determine the solubility of an unknown alkaline earth
hydroxide. Members of this event were David Amiel, Alexandra Chin, and Nick Kalman .
Congratulations to all members of the team. Your hard work and determination paid
off. Our goal for next year is to take
first place overall at the New Jersey Chemistry Olympics. Go Team!
