English 12: Contemporary Literature & Society: Problems and Solutions

Prerequisite: English 11

Students will explore issues involving race, gender, religion, sexuality, poverty, hunger, disability and others, on the local, national and global levels. Novels, speeches, essays, films, and shorter works will be analyzed in order to assess and synthesize these issues and, potentially, provide students an opportunity to make an effort to remedy these problems through community-based or individual projects and service.
